Have you done today the one thing that you must do every morning in order to meet your all important goals for the year? It is already 50 days into 2015; what progress have you made in improving and growing your business?
If you are not taking time every morning to look at your written goals and your plan of action, you are still doing it wrong.
You have too much to do today and too little time. As a business owner and a leader, your duties, tasks and responsibilities are multiplied. Successful entrepreneurs are those who have a complete and intimate understanding of every facet of their business and industry. You must know everything about your own company (including its strengths and weaknesses), your customers, your competition and the business environment you operate in. This needs a lot of time, before you even start the actual work of producing goods and services.
Without taking time daily to refocus on your goals and set priorities, you become overwhelmed and less effective, more so considering that we are operating in a very tough economic environment where survival depends on your ability to remain on your toes all the time while maintaining a cool head.
The challenge is to spend more time doing those things that are most important to you and less time doing those things that are not at all important. With clear goals and written action plans, you judge the importance of anything that you do by how much it adds value to your goal achievement.
Look at the time you have already spent since you woke up today. How much did you spend doing things that take you nearer your goal? Remember everything you do, the actions you take, the people you talk with, the books you read, they either take you forwards or backwards in reaching your goal.
So, if you have not been doing it right, start today. The economy has nothing to do with the attainment of your goals. It’s the small things you do daily that will make you a better entrepreneur and a more effective person. Remember the third of Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People: PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST.
