Imagine you are swimming across a raging river. You were stuck on the wrong side and desperately need

to get to the other side. Half way across the river, the flow is strongest, frothing and trying to shove you

downstream. But you keep on fighting the water, even though some is getting into your mouth and ears.

You thrash about with both your hands and your feet, but the flow keeps on trying to drown you. You

fight on,  one inch at a time and you are getting weary.

Suddenly a hippo is swimming below your legs. It gives you a huge shove and pushes you towards the

river bank. There the water is less violent. You feel the shallow surface with your hands, and there, you

are out of the water.

Life can deal you heavy blows. Sometimes you feel like you are hopeless and drowning while trying to build and grow your business. That is entrepreneurship. It is never easy otherwise everyone would be a millionaire.

Motivational speaker and writer Anthony Robbins said: “What we can or cannot do, what we consider

possible or impossible, is rarely a function of our true capability. It is more likely a function of our beliefs about who we are.”

But our beliefs about who we are and what we are capable of may collapse, especially in times of extreme stress,  and we may be ready to give up. We may not be able to summon our inner strength and stamina.

In that case we may need someone to give us a shove.

I have found that reading motivational books by highly positive minded people like Bryan Tracy, Anthony

Robbins and others gives me that shove I need to go forward and not give up. The other solution is to

actually listen to a positive minded person speaking to you and the passion will be instantly infectious. Positive talks or articles help me focus not on the problems but on the solutions.

From 5 September 2013, motivational speakers and business coaches Brendan and Sally Palmer will be

holding a series of workshops to help entrepreneurs ignite their passion in business. If you feel you are

not at the level that you should be at in terms of success, I recommend you attend the 4 week program.

It might just be the shove you need, the tonic to inspire you towards success.
